Best Ways For A Sparkling Smile

A smile can connect people and mend bridges by bringing them together. The smile is also considered as one of the traits that ooze confidence. A healthy person is often perceived as a happy person.

Smile is extremely important for our health and personality. It is imported to care for our dental health and hygiene as any dental disorder can result in other serious conditions. Dental health care is an extremely important subject today as we live in a stressful and fast paced life with crash diets and junk food to support the paced life.

According to the studies by the British Dental Health Foundation approximately 84% of British adults have a minimum of one or more dental filling and 31% of the adults are suffering from tooth cavity and decay. As per American Dental Hygienist’s Association, 78% of teenagers have at least one or more cavity in the United States.

As scary as these facts sound, it is more or less clear that people suffer from dental problems in most parts of the world. Hence, one should care for their dental health and smile but how? Here are some tips that will help you to keep your smile beautiful and sparkling:

Brushing and oral care

For a healthy gum and dental health a good oral care routine is essential and it could be simple. The routine includes everyday dental brushing with good diet and dental checkups at regular intervals.

  • Plaque

When the tooth is not properly brushed or flossed a gum like bacterial growth covers the enamel resulting in dental plaque. Plaque hardens over a period and becomes extremely difficult to remove as it turns into tartar.  The tartar can decay the tooth faster and leads to tooth loss and other gum problems.

The solution for plaque is simple- brush your teeth twice every day. Toothpaste should contain fluoride for effective plaque removal. And most importantly learn the right technique to brush that is up and down with smooth circular strokes. You can try to use a sensitive toothbrush that has a good shape and is easy to brush.

You may think brushing is good enough but brushing cannot remove the plaque and food particles that are hidden under and in the sides of teeth and gum line.  Buy a good floss to use every day along with your brushing routine.

  • Decayed tooth

Tooth decays are not limited to children even adults suffer from painful tooth that has decayed. Untreated decayed tooth is extremely dangerous as it can lead to infection and finally loss of tooth. People who lose their teeth experience psychological distress. Thankfully tooth decay can be effectively prevented and it is much cheaper than removing a rotten tooth.

Tooth decays are caused by plaque build-up and acid that is present in sticky and sugary food items.  When such food items are regularly consumed for a longer duration the acid present in the food destroys tooth enamel and thus a hole or cavity is formed leading to tooth decay.

Prevent decaying of the tooth by:

  • Cleaning your teeth regularly
  • Avoiding sugary foods and junk treats
  • Avoiding carbonated drinks and caffeine
  • By regular dental checkups
  • Using dental sealants with the help of an expert dentist

In case you already have a decayed tooth you can either get a dental filing or root canal treatment or discuss other options available to you with your dentist as soon as possible.

Eating and drinking habits

You may be vulnerable to tooth decays, plaques and cavities if you are addicted to eating junk and fast food, soft drinks and sweets including mint. Eating for the most of the day can also risk your tooth’s health.

However, as mentioned earlier tooth decay can be prevented.

  • Avoid sugary food and soft drinks
  • Turn your ‘not so healthy’ diet into a healthy one by adding protein and vitamin rich food like nuts and legumes.
  • If you are compelled to have sugary food items and carbonated drinks ensure to consume them with your lunch or dinner.
  • Fresh and clear water can wash down left over and hidden food particles in your tooth and gum line thereby reducing the chances of plaque build-up.
  • Most importantly visit your dentist for regular checkups to maintain your smile.

A simple dental hygiene routine, good eating habits and a healthy diet coupled with regular visits to your dentist can prevent tooth decays and promote oral and dental health which can help you to restore your sparkling smile.
